The TURAS Mobile Green Living Room has generated much media and public attention on its journey through Europe. Nowhere more than Zagreb...

Some of the TURAS coverage from Croatia is presented hereafter including an interview (translated into English from the national press) with the young architect who is accompanying the Mobile Green Living Room throughout Europe.

First question: Dear Jonathan, please tell us about TURAS. What is TURAS when did TURAS start, where, etc.?

TURAS stands for Transitioning towards Urban Resilience and Sustainability. The initiative "TURAS" aimed to bring about more cooperation in urban areas between local authorities and scientists, citizens and businesses to develop practical new solutions for more sustainable and resilient European cities.

Second question: TURAS is funded by the European Union. Can you tell us about your projects, how many partners included?

We have 12 cities involved and more than 20 other partners from across Europe along with a partner in Taiwan. It is difficult to remember them all at times but information on all can be found on www.turas-cities.eu . Generally speaking, TURAS cooperates with many universities, local authorities and small and medium-sized enterprises throughout Europe.

Third question: Is Croatia part of the TURAS project? If not, what is the reason, if so, which Croatian partners are part TURAS's, in what projects are involved?) Do you have in mind some sort of cooperation with our country in the future?

So far, Croatia is not officially part of the TURAS team but we are delighted to bring this mobile green living room exhibition to Croatia to raise interest and awareness. We would like to cooperate in the future.

Fourth question: What are the challenges and what is your main goal?

The biggest challenge is of course to change urban planning and policy applying a more holistic, sustainable and resilient model of urban planning.

Fifth question: How successful has the project been?

Well, the real success will be seen only in the long run! Success is to ensure that social behavior is more sustainable and that it is a normal habit and not an exception or luxury.

Sixth question: What is the Mobile exhibition Green living room (MGLR) which has come to Croatia as part of the big European tour and TURAS project. Who is responsible for this project, where did the idea come for the MGLR? Who are the designers, architects and landscape architects? How many cities you plan to visit on their Roadshow?

The TURAS Mobile green living room (MGLR) is a model of one of the green infrastructure solutions coming from the project TURAS FP7 project. It is a mobile green urban space fitted into the size of a container, which can fit on the back of a truck. The MGLR provides an introduction to green urban infrastructure, mobile and usable, with a seating area, green walls and green roof that provides shade. Ferdinand Ludwig from architecture FRM ludwig.schoenle (Stuttgart, Germany) was responsible for the planning and construction of MGLR and Helix Pflanzen GmbH (Kornwestheim, Germany) worked with him toi include a variety of plants including edible strawberries and kiwis. Bernd Eisenberg of the University of Stuttgart was responsible for the scientific supervision of the project. Before Zagreb, the MGLR visited Bonn, Frankfurt, Barking (London), Brussels, Antwerp, Ljubljana and it will end up at the Climate Alliance Annual Conference in Krems (Austria).

TURAS (Transitioning towards Urban Resilience and Sustainability) znači ‘Prijelaz prema urbanoj otpornosti i održivosti’. Inicijativa “TURAS” označava suradnju urbanih sredina i tvrtki zajedno s lokalnim vlastima i znanstvenicima na razvijanju praktičnih novih rješenja za više održive i otpornije europske gradove.
No, općenito govoreći, TURAS surađuje sa brojnim Sveučilištima, lokalnim vlastima, te malim i srednjim poduzećima diljem Europe.
3. HDKA: Je li Hrvatska dio TURAS tima?
Zasad Hrvatska nije dio TURAS tima. Rado bismo surađivali u budućnosti.
5. HDKA: Koliko ste uspješni u svojim namjerama?
Prije Zagreba, planirali smo postaviti MGLR u Frankfurtu, Barkingu (London), Bruxellesu, Antwerpenu, Ljubljani i Kremsu (Austrija).
